Immediate transmission of electronic documents to the SRI in 2026
Since January 1, 2026, electronic documents must be transmitted to the SRI immediately.
What changed on January 1, 2026
The SRI announced that immediate transmission of electronic sales documents, withholding documents, and supplementary documents became mandatory on that date. The measure is based on Resolution 14 of 2025 and its amendment through Resolution 17.
What it means for a restaurant
The workflow does not end when a bill is printed or payment is recorded. The invoicing system must generate and sign the XML, transmit it to the SRI, and check the response. An outage or rejection should remain visible so the business can correct and follow it up.
Recommended operational controls
Maintain a stable connection, check electronic-signature validity, monitor pending documents, and confirm that each invoice is linked to the correct sale. Do not present a document as authorized while its status remains unconfirmed.
Where to confirm the rule
Review the SRI notice and electronic-invoicing section before changing processes. This guide explains the operational impact and does not replace review of obligations specific to a RUC.
Educational information reviewed against official sources available on November 5, 2026. Obligations depend on the RUC, tax regime, and operation. Confirm your case with the SRI or a tax professional.
